I mean there's stuff in maneater that's ripped straight from jaws, the license plates for example. There's just no excuse for that, especially considering it's super obvious they took a lot from jaws unleashed. This is more like if GTA 6 came out but it had the shooting mechanics of San Andreas. It's not like we're talking about driving games where some might prefer a more arcade style over a super realistic one. I mean given the choice is there really anyone that would choose to have the simplistic and bland eating mechanics in this game over a more complicated system where you could actually rip things apart and eat them like a shark would? That's a major issue and because of it we now have an almost constant stream of disappointing formulaic triple A games. There's an idea floating around gaming that we should just be happy with what we get, like devs are somehow doing us favours by just making a game, regardless of its quality. Yup I agree but I think we have to make our voices be heard on things like that. The game is bland and uninspired, deal with it or prove me wrong. I find it kind of inexcusable tbhĮdit: lol all you butthurt fanboys downvoting this while providing no counter argument. I mean this game should have better combat and brutality considering the technological advancements in games yet the combat is worse. I'm just wondering why that is? Would it have been so hard to at least match the mechanics that a 16 year old game had? But it's not like you can just bite someone's legs off or bite them in half like in jaws. Do X amount of damage and one arm pops off, followed by the other, followed by a leg and so on. You cant even dismember people properly, it's just a damage thing. Seriously try to actually watch something when you eat it, things just shrink and vanish. It does have real gore, it's just it feels cheap and bland. Yeah well not being realistic is one thing but it's not like the game has cartoon violence. Honestly I did enjoy the game up to a point, but I kept feeling like it could've been so much better. Also something Jaws unleashed did so it's obviously not difficult to achieve. The eyes are fucking ridiculous though, why does the shark not have black eyes that turn white like real bull sharks? Was that not cool enough or something because I think that's way more badass than cat eyes. The scar is too large and they should've kept the fin intact to maintain that iconic image of the dark triangle of death gliding through the waves. They just look terrible and over the top, I don't even like the standard look of the shark. I'm also not a fan of the "evolutions" or more accurately mutations. In fact I'm fairly certain things actually just shrink in your mouth and ripping stuff apart either results in instant swallowing or they burst into identical round hunks of indiscernible meat. In this game however, you just sort of pop things. Ripping things apart piece by piece or swallowing them whole to a chorus of ocean-muffled screams is just so sadistically fun. At least not if you've been playing Jaws and enjoying the visceral and brutal animations and combat. Which is where my problem lies with this game, eating stuff just isn't that fun. I forgot how fun it was to devour people in that game. I think that was a mistake though, I spent almost 2 weeks playing jaws unleashed before this came out and had an absolute blast. I'm sure lots of you were fans of the game jaws unleashed like me and maybe some of you also replayed that game in anticipation like I did. I think it's overpriced but it's still fun and I love the environments and the overall theme, the TV documentary style story is awesome but the gameplay feels really shallow and disappointing in my opinion.
