Space Engineers, from what I've seen of its current state (have it, but have yet to get a chance to play) seems more polished than Pulsar. It's unashamedly not ready for release, but it's being worked on, the devs are actively improving it and adding new things, and even in its current state, it's a LOT of fun. There's a decent amount of content in the game, but a lot of it feels unfinished. Pulsar is kind of like first-person FTL mixed with Guns of Icarus in space. Space Engineers is kind of like Starmade, but with better graphics. Leafy Games are on a good path to join that distinguished group of devs. They delivered in the past, they instill confidence that they can provide me with a game I want. Over the years I have picked up the vibes, anything released by Valve, Frictional Games, Haemimont Games, etc, I just buy on instinct, even if it's early access, beta, kickstarter, etc. Leafy have been active on the Steam forums (which is more than I can say for any AAA title studio), they have commited a lot of community suggestions to the game while also fixing reported bugs and adding new content, all while being very responsive in the forums. How do they communicate with the community? Is there a roadmap? Do you like what the community say they want? Do you like what the devs say they plan? If you feel like gambling your money the projected vision, go for it. Check in on their vision and goals for the game. When you buy early access you must recognize the dev team. I don't know my exact hours in this game, but it's a lot more than my last three purchased AAA titles combined, which went for a lot more money a pop. The fact that the game is early access should be a red flag for anyone who wants to play a GOOD game. Here's what I'd say after having some experience with early access. If you have played Guns of Icarus Online, this game is like the extremly weaksauce version of it but in space. Other than that, this game has a 1day to 1 weeks worth of gameplay depending on your learning capacity. Projectiles do good damage against shields but less accurate at long range and can be dodged. Lasers are accurate at long range and good agaisnt hulls. Quantum shield is a different shield but prevents the enemy from being able to board your ship. No foward shielding or aft shielding You just have 1 shield. From my expirence, the enemy ship can fire thier weapons facing any direction because AI is stupid and couldnt figure out how to anyway. Try to keep ships in position to fire weapons. Space Combat: Your classical space combat.
